Cases overview: Large PDFs and page limits

Upload PDFs with many pages directly — amaise splits them automatically. Other file types are limited to 2000 pages.

PDFs: no page limit

A PDF you upload in the browser has no page limit. If it has more than 500 pages, amaise splits it automatically during processing into parts of at most 500 pages. Where possible, the cut is placed at a document boundary. You do not need to do anything: upload the file as usual. The file size limit still applies: each file must be under 2 GB.

What you see after the split

In the file list, your uploaded file becomes an entry that behaves like a folder. The parts sit beneath it and are named, for example, "pages 1-500.pdf" and "pages 501-983.pdf". The numbers in the name show which pages the part holds; they follow the actual cut. These names are always in English, whatever language your workspace uses. The parent entry shows how many files it holds, for example "3 files".

Your original file is kept: clicking its name downloads exactly the file you uploaded.

Each part is processed on its own. The documents from all parts belong to the case as usual.

Note: If a document runs across a cut, it can appear as two documents.

Other file types: 2000 pages after conversion

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, image and web page files are converted to PDF before processing, if your workspace has these file types enabled. After the conversion, the result can have at most 2000 pages. If it is longer, the file is not processed: it stays in the file list with a message in red below it saying that it has too many pages. It is not split. The message asks you to split the PDF — for a converted file, splitting does not help.

What to do instead: open the file in the program it was made in, save it as a PDF and upload that PDF. The PDF is then split automatically.

Two more file types, if they are enabled for your workspace, have limits of their own: the text of an email can produce at most 200 pages, and a calendar file can hold at most 500 appointments.

Note: For these two file types too, the red message names 2000 pages and suggests splitting the PDF. The limits above are the ones that apply.

Uploads through an integration

PDFs that reach amaise through an integration or the programming interface, and not through the browser, are not split. They are limited to 2000 pages. Split such PDFs before they are sent.

Which files you can upload

Which file types are enabled for your workspace, and which other limits apply when you upload, is covered in the article Cases overview: Supported file formats and upload limits. Only amaise can switch these file types on. Ask your amaise contact about it.
