DocPilot is your AI assistant for single documents or a selection of up to 5 documents. It knows the content in detail and answers your specific questions. For questions about the whole case, use CasePilot.
Open DocPilot
You'll find DocPilot in the tool bar on the right edge. Click the DocPilot icon to open the chat panel — or press g and then d.
💡 You can switch between the pilots anytime — via the icons in the tool bar or the speed dial left of the input field. There you choose "DocPilot with current document", "DocPilot with up to 5 documents", or CasePilot.
DocPilot refers to the currently open document. That makes it most useful in the document study, right next to the PDF reader — so you can read a document and ask questions about it at the same time.
Detach panel
Use the "Open in separate window" icon in the panel header to detach DocPilot into a separate window.
Chat with a single document
When you have a document open in the PDF reader, DocPilot automatically refers to that document. Ask your question, and DocPilot answers based on the content of the open document. If you open a different document, DocPilot starts a new conversation about that document.

You can also use DocPilot with a selection of documents:

Drag and drop documents from the document list into the chat panel — while dragging, the drop area "Drop document here" appears
Ask your question — DocPilot now refers to all added documents
The added documents appear as chips above the input field under "You can drop up to 5 documents here:". Clicking a chip opens the document; the X removes it. If you remove all chips, DocPilot switches back to the currently open document.
⚠️ You can add up to 5 documents at the same time. On the sixth, the message "Only a maximum of 5 documents can be added." appears.
This way, you can specifically compare or summarize information from certain documents.

Explain from the PDF reader
Select a passage in the open document and click "Explain by DocPilot" in the popup — DocPilot opens and explains the selected passage in context.
Source references
Every answer includes inline source references — links embedded directly in the answer text that point to the relevant passages in the document. Click a source reference to jump directly to the corresponding page in the PDF reader.
Conversation history
DocPilot remembers the context of your conversation. You can ask follow-up questions without having to explain the context again.
Your "Previous conversations" appear on the panel's start screen, grouped by day. Click a conversation to continue it — even across sessions. Delete one with the X that appears on hover.
Customize answers
As with CasePilot, you can customize the format, audience, and language of the answer in DocPilot — directly in your question or via the settings below the input field. Detailed descriptions are available in the "Customize answers" section of the article AI assistants: CasePilot.
Translate document
You can ask DocPilot to translate the content of a document. Open the desired document, select the output language under "Answer in", and write, for example, "Translate this document".
⚠️ Translation works best with shorter documents (about 1–2 pages of text).
The output is in text format and may differ from the original document's layout.
